Postalco Tool Box Pen Case - Black

A pencil case built on the logic of an actual tool box: it opens flat and stays stable, so the contents sit visible and reachable rather than buried in a bag. Postalco's framing is that a pencil box is the smallest desk — somewhere to set up and work from, wherever you happen to be. Made from pressed cotton and cowhide, handmade in Japan.

What makes it special

• Holds up to 36 pencils, and takes scissors, rulers, and sticky notes alongside them
• Collapses to about 1 cm thick when empty, so it packs flat when it isn't loaded
• Pressed cotton woven on the same machines once used for tent fabric, left uncoated to keep the hand of the material — PFAS-free, with a light water-resistant treatment rather than a waterproof coating
• Aniline-dyed full-grain cowhide trim, uncoated, so it darkens with use and light and takes scratches in as patina
• Both materials change with use: the cotton softens and the white base threads come forward, the leather deepens
• Handmade in Japan, with construction Postalco describes as difficult enough to depend on the maker's hand
