Exceeded expectations

I saw the review on YouTube and that is why I ordered the Kokuyo Auxiliary Hardcover Notebook A4. I like A4 because I leave a large left margin for notes and only write on every other line which works fine with A4 but not with smaller sizes.

The paper shows ink halo very well, and that is my favorite ink quality. Inks dry fairly quickly, don’t feather, and don’t spread out. The paper also is opaque enough that using both sides is easy even with a wet nib. The cover and edge bluing are really quite pleasing as is the lie-flat binding, the 7mm rule with the spacing dots on the top line and the red subject line. I prefer 8mm but that is hard to find with all the qualities of this notebook. The tooth works for me both with dip nibs and standard FP nibs.

I love the big page numbers. It’s odd. It is not a big problem to number pages as I go and I rarely bother to index anyway but these are so much nicer somehow. The index pages are also special with the Kanji column headings.

I’ve used Tomoe River notebooks for many years and those have their own charm but I tired of the thin paper and see-thru. This has a classic feel that suits me.

I expect to be back to buy more.
