Kitaboshi is one of the last remaining Tokyo-based pencil manufacturers. This family run business is over 100 years old and is focused on making top quality pencils.

We tested dozens of pencils and found the Kitaboshi 9606 to be the best general purpose pencil for writing. These pencils look and feel great. The quality is unbeatable. 

In our testing we found The HB 9606 to be very similar to the B grade Mitsubishi Hi-Uni and Tombow Mono 100 pencils in terms of smoothness and darkness but with the added benefit of a high quality eraser and a more affordable price.
