Kaweco Cleaning Syringe - 20 ml

A maintenance tool for flushing fountain pens. It's a 20 ml plastic syringe fitted with an empty standard-international cartridge as its tip, joined by a short length of rubber tubing. Kaweco developed it in its own repair department for clearing clogged feeds and reviving nibs that have started skipping or hard-starting.

What it's for

• Fill the syringe with water or pen flush, seat the cartridge tip onto the pen's section where a cartridge would go, and press the plunger — the flush runs straight through the feed and nib, the actual ink path, rather than just over the outside of the nib
• The pressure breaks up and expels dried ink that soaking alone won't shift, which is often all that's behind a scratchy or hard-starting nib
• More controlled and less messy than a rubber bulb: you direct the flow instead of splashing water at the nib
• Useful when changing ink colors, to clear the old ink before the new one goes in
• The 20 ml barrel holds enough to flush a pen in a pass or two
