Laid-finish envelopes from G. Lalo, the Parisian stationer that has been making correspondence paper since 1919. Vergérefers to the grid of fine parallel lines pressed into the sheet — originally the impression left by the wire mould that handmade paper was laid on to dry, and the origin of the English term "laid finish." G. Lalo still makes the paper by the traditional method, with modern equipment. The lines give the surface a visible texture and a subtle ribbed feel under the hand.
The envelopes are 25% cotton, gummed, and lined with white tissue so the contents don't show through. Twenty-five to a box, sized to take the matching Vergé de France writing paper folded once.
What makes it special
- Laid finish: fine parallel lines pressed into the sheet, the same texture that distinguishes handmade paper
- 25% cotton content, which gives the sheet more body and a softer hand than wood pulp alone
- White tissue lining, so nothing reads through the envelope
- Gummed flap
- Made in France by G. Lalo, in production since 1919
- Matching Vergé de France writing paper available separately, sized to fold into these
