For some time, I have had my sights set on a Pelikan Souveran M670 in warm gray and its sibling, the M100 in white. The M670 is well north of $500 and the M100 is vintage, so finding one that is NOS or in decent condition at a reasonable price is sort of a crap shoot. A few weeks ago, I stumbled on an episode of Blake's Broadcast which reviewed the Cleo Skribent Classic Palladium fountain pen. Cleo Skribent is a brand that did not know about until then. By the end of the review, I felt intrigued, which compelled me to order the pen.
The Classic Palladium has the aesthetic of the Pelikan pens, with an understated design similar to that of one of my favorite pens, the Lamy 2000 (Makrolon). It is light, yet solid and seemingly capable of withstanding heavy use. The pen lays down a smooth line during writing, but not to the degree where one has difficulty maintaining control. The nib provides a satisfying amount of feedback. The Classic Palladium is also a great value. These days, the number of fountain pens made with quality materials, a piston-filling mechanism, and a 14K gold nib that are within the $200 price range is vanishingly small. I highly recommend this pen.
WYSIWYG. Nothing fancy about this pen. It’s the right size, right price, smooth piston filler, easy to carry around, really good nib: this is a pen you can count on always to lay down a line just how you imagine it. In comparison I’d put this right up there to the Lamy 2000 and above the Pilot custom heritage 74 in the world of entry level gold nib pens. Nothing sexy about this pen, it just works right. More people should know about this pen. 100% satisfied.
A small, but not too small, very well-writing with good piston-filler. A winner!
I am so glad I purchased this piston fill pen, The white resin with Palladium trim feels like a solid fountain pen that will last but it is still lightweight. I am impressed with the medium 14K gold nib as it writes smoothly and shows shading ink better than any other medium nib that I have.
